Jewellery
(& other lovely things)
from British designer-maker, Sarah Jane Whittaker.
Unfussy, gentle, natural.

The impairments I live with include sensory loss - this is why I give most of my jewellery pieces a deliberately mellow and matte finish, and my artwork is full of texture.
Numb fingers mean that I tend to drop anything completely smooth (imagine handling something wearing a couple of pairs of woolly gloves, and you’ll get the idea). A textured surface enriches by conveying more information.
Like most artists, a well-worn surface or an interesting texture will often stop me in my tracks, and you’ll see this in my work, as I seek to persuade you that something that isn’t perfect in the conventional way can often be more beautiful.
And, after all, aren’t we the same, becoming more beautiful as time etches our faces with a the subtle beauty of experiences lived?

Wherever possible, Mojo & the Maker jewellery is made using recycled, reclaimed and re-used materials. I use recycled sterling silver, reclaimed fine silver and eco-silver, vintage beads, recyclable packaging, an environmentally-conscious jewellers’ torch, and an eco-energy tariff. Paint residues from making artwork are disposed of with care for the environment.

My work is only ever made as one-offs or in small quantities, either by me (and I have sensory, energy and mobility impairments that make me slow), or by one of a team of highly-skilled home-grown artisans based here in Britain that help me with orders from time-to-time.
It’s really unlikely that you’ll bump into anyone else who owns the same piece, and your buy might even become a future Antiques Roadshow find, who knows?

Every single piece here is designed by me, and is handmade in the UK, either by me or by one of my team of skilled British artisans. Artwork is all designed and painted by me. Prints and cards are printed by a small family-owned print company.
By choosing my work, you’re doing a wonderful thing - you’re helping keep a small business going, and providing income for skilled UK makers. Thank you!

Mojo & the Maker pieces have a timeless vibe, so you can enjoy them for life, helping you to buy less, but buy better.
