Conscious buying.

Tips to help you love what you buy.

Choosing the perfect item of jewellery can get tricky when shopping online - especially if buying as a gift.  These tips will help you get it right, saving you time, money and hassle, while also reducing the economic and environmental impact of handling returns.

  • Read the product description. This is full of useful information, includng the material the piece is made from, details about the clasp or type of earring fitting, the item size, and the product lead time (the time it takes to get your order ready for despatch - this is proper slow jewellery, remember, made by hand here in the UK).

  • Get the size right. Check things like chain length (compare with another necklace or pendant you love to wear), and the size. We use a macro setting for photography, so size can be difficult to gauge without a ruler to compare againt.

  • If you don’t love it, don’t buy it. Pause and think. Do you love it? Will the person you’re buying for love it? If you’re sure, go right ahead! If not, take a breath and step away. If you find you’re still thinking about it, it’s probably the right purchase for you.

  • Buying for someone else? Think about what colour metal they tend to choose for themselves to wear - do they prefer silver or gold, or edgier blackened or antiqued (oxidised) silver? Do they tend to go for small and dainty jewellery pieces, or do they prefer to make a statement with larger jewellery? Do they only wear pure gold for allergy reasons (if so, this is going to be an expensive gift, but many of our designs can be specially made for you in 9ct or 18ct yellow gold - contact us for availability, lead times and prices).

  • Don’t forget about aftercare. Our bright silver jewellery just loves a good clean with a silver cloth, so consider adding one to your order to keep your piece looking gorgeous over the months and years. (Don’t use on our specially darkened oxidised silver, on pearls, or on gold-plated silver items, as it’s too abrasive and may adversely affect the finish.)

Dispatch times.

Order in plenty of time.

I aim to dispatch orders from the studio within 10 working days, though it’s often possible much sooner (especially in the case of jewellery orders). I live with unpredictable health challenges, so please understand that there may be an occasion when I’m unable to meet this dispatch/lead time aim. In the unlikely event of any delay in dispatching your order, you’ll be notified by email, giving you the option to cancel your order and receive a refund, or wait for delivery. Patience is always sincerely appreciated, and rest assured that your order will be worth the wait!

Always remember to allow plenty of shipping time for your item to work it’s way through the postal service and be delivered, especially during the festive season, during periods when the weather has been inclement, or when the postal service is affected by strikes or other issues. It’s always safest to allow up to 28 days for UK mainland delivery.

Please allow up to 35 working days for delivery of orders to addresses outside the UK.

If you need a piece for a specific date please contact me before ordering, and I’ll do my best to help you!

An email will be sent to confirm dispatch along with a tracking number, to allow you to check on your item's progress, so you’ll know when it’s on its way to you.

Read on for shipping times.

Shipping.

Free shipping within the UK mainland.

Standard UK shipping of jewellery orders to mainland delivery addresses is free, but I recommend you consider upgrading to Royal Mail Special Delivery (subsidised price). Be aware that Special Delivery items will require a signature on delivery, and may need collecting from a neighbour or your local delivery office if you’re out when the postie calls, or you can go online to rearrange delivery for a more convenient date when you can be at home. Remember to allow time for your piece to be created for you, if necessary - see Making times, below.

UK shipping for orders containing just greetings cards currently costs £1.55 for second class, and £3.45 for first class post.

UK shipping for orders containing just artwork or preloved items is charged depending on the size, weight and packaging demands of the item you order. Current shipping rates are shown at checkout process, before you confirm your order.

UK orders for a mixture of jewellery, greetings card, artwork and/or preloved items is calculated at the most reasonable level possible. I’m happy to advise before you place a mixed order, in case cost savings for a mixed-product type shipping cost can be achieved.

International shipping.

International delivery of jewellery orders or unframed artwork via Royal Mail International Tracked delivery costs GBP £17 per order/delivery address. Currently, the only country I deliver to outside the UK mainland is the USA. If you need delivery to any other country, please contact me, and I’ll see what I can do to help. Remember to allow time for your piece to be created for you, if necessary, and note that additional import duties and charges may apply when ordering from outside the UK, and remain your responsibility - see Making times and Customs charges, below.

Apologies, but I’m currently unable to ship greetings cards, framed artwork or preloved items outside the UK mainland.

Customs charges.

International orders may incur extra charges.

International deliveries are sent DDU - delivered duty unpaid. This means that International (non-UK) customers are responsible for any duties and/or taxes and/or additional charges (including handling fees) that may be imposed on the item on arrival at the destination country. I have no control over these charges, which can in some cases be considerable. Which really sucks, I know.

Returns policy.

Customer satisfaction is my priority.

I want you to be delighted with your purchases from this web site. If you're not completely satisfied with your purchase, and you'd like to return it, please read through all of this page first of all, then follow this procedure:

  1. Before returning your item, please notify us of your return, and the reason for it, by emailing hello[at]mojoandthemaker.com.

  2. You will then receive a returns code by email.

  3. Please then return the item to the address below by a tracked/insured service, in its original, undamaged, unworn condition, and in the original packaging, securely packaged to go safely in the post, within 14 days of receipt, enclosing a copy of the order note sent out with your purchase. Be sure to quote your unique returns code, and state whether you'd like an exchange or a refund.

After taking the steps above, please return your item in the condition explained above, to:

Sarah Jane Whittaker MATM, 2 Farm House Road, Telford, Shropshire TF4 2SB, UK.

You will need to pay for the cost of return shipping, unless we have made a mistake or the item is faulty.  If we're required to pay a fee to collect your returned item from the delivery office (for example, if you've failed to add postage to your parcel, or have added too little postage to it), this sum may be deducted from any refund or exchange value.

Please definitely do ensure that the items are safely and robustly packaged, as we can’t be responsible for damage that occurs before the item gets back to us. We can’t be responsible for items that are lost in transit whilst being returned to us, so we strongly recommend that you choose an insured and tracked shipping service for returns (we recommend you choose Special Delivery for your security), and please retain your proof of posting receipt. Please include a note in your parcel (or a copy of your order confirmation), stating the reason for your return, as well as your order number and name.   Refunds are made via the same payment method you used online.  Where shipping was paid for, only the cheapest shipping level available to your delivery destination is refunded unless the item is faulty or we made we got your order wrong.

Bespoke pieces and items that have been customised to your request aren't refundable, and can't be exchanged.  Jewellery for pierced ears that has been sent out in a hygiene-sealed clear bag becomes non-returnable once you've broken the seal (unless the item has a manufacturing fault, or we sent the wrong item in error).

We inspect returns on receipt, and if we find that an item hasn't been returned to us in the condition it was sent out in and in fully-resalable condition, or is missing from the packaging when opened, we reserve the right to refuse a refund or to refuse an exchange on the item.

In the case of exchanges because you’ve changed your mind, the first exchange to a UK mainland address is sent out free of shipping cost, exactly as the original order was, but repeat exchanges require additional shipping to be paid. In the case of all overseas exchanges, a re-delivery charge of GBP £19 needs to be paid before we can send out an exchange.  When returning an item from outside the UK, it's your responsibility to mark the parcel as a return - if you don't do this, we may be charged customs and other fees, charges and taxes - if this happens, the amount charged will be deducted from any refund or exchange.

If anything in this Refund Policy isn't clear, please do contact us. before returning your item, so we can help. Thank you!

Descriptions & images.

I try to be as accurate as possible.

Buying online can be tricky, as you can’t handle the work, so I try to ensure as much accuracy as possible when photographing and describing my pieces. Do remember that each pieces is handmade, and this means that variations may occur, including in surface finish and exact placement of elements - these variations aren’t flaws (they’re part of the joy of a handcrafted piece). Colours may vary from photographs due to variations in how computer monitors render colours. Stated sizes are accurate within reason. Images are not to scale - I often use a macro setting so that you can see detail - so before ordering, please refer carefully to the dimensions given for each piece, and compare with a ruler to get a true sense of scale.
