Social responsibility.
As you’d expect from a thoughtful jewellery maker, I take my responsibilities seriously, both towards the other people and creatures I share this planet with, and to those to come after me.
If possible, I use recycled precious metals, to reduce the need for mining. I choose recycled or recyclable packaging wherever I can, and buy my gas and electricity on greener tariffs. I haven’t flown in an aircraft for well over 15 years, and I use a car as little as I can.
I’m always working on improving the environmental and social impact of my craft and my business, recognising that there can always be improvement.
It can be difficult to be sure that those working earlier down the supply chain (especially in the gemstone and precious metals trades) are paid properly for their work. I do my best to source my materials from reputable suppliers who pay a fair wage to their workers.
Because every single Mojo & the Maker piece is either made by me in-house, or by one of my team of highly-skilled artisans based in the nearby Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham or elsewhere in the UK, I can be confident that my ethical standards are maintained as much as possible.
I’m a member of the Green Party, a UK political party that stands for a fairer, Greener country.
This means:
1. No child labour, youth labour or involuntary labour. My UK-based artisan makers and production partners don't use the labour of minors, or involuntary labour. And nor do I.
2. No involuntary labour. My production partners don't use involuntary labour, including slave labour, prison labour, indentured labour or forced labour. And nor do I.
3. Humane working conditions. I’m confident that my production partners insist on humane working hours for any employees (except perhaps if they’re the self-employed boss - crazy hours go with the territor), and don’t use any form of physical or psychological coercion or intimidation against such workers. And nor do I.
4. Non-discrimination. We have zero tolerance for discrimination on the basis of:
Race
Colour
Ethnicity
National origin
Religion
Gender
Gender identity
Sexual orientation
Disability
Any other characteristic protected under applicable law
